Second Day Rosh Hashanah Tashlich

Sunday, September 17 • 12:30 pm at Bridge behind Eli Whitney Center

Join us at CMI for a family friendly service as we cast our sins into the sea! The ritual of Tashlich being held at the bridge at Eli Whitney Museum involves throwing bread into a water where fish can eat it while we recount the ways in which we errored in the past year. This is open to the community, and all ages are welcome.

Yom Kippur Reflection Service

The lay-led reflection service on Yom Kippur afternoon provides an opportunity for individual reflection on the past, present, and future with the aid of original and thoughtfully selected writings and music. As an alternative to the Family Service, there is a group text study and discussion for adults.

Yom Kippur Adult Study

A meaningful and interesting group text study on Monday, September 25th at 2:00 p.m.

High Holy Day Memorial Service

Each High Holy Day season, a memorial service is held at the CMI Cemetery on the Sunday before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Please join Rabbi Ross and Cantor Giglio in the beautiful CMI Cemetery to honor and remember our loved ones who are no longer with us. Your loved ones do not need to be buried at our cemetery in order for you to participate.

The CMI Cemetery is located at 701 Whalley Ave, New Haven, CT 06515.

High Holy Day Tickets

We provide High Holy Days tickets to our current members at no charge. College and graduate students are invited to be our guests. We welcome you to bring family for a suggested donation, and additional guests may purchase tickets. Please submit a guest ticket request form or call the office at 203-288-3877.

Memorial book

Congregation Mishkan Israel’s Memorial Book has become the medium by which members of our Congregation and relatives of former members honor those loved ones who have passed away. The Memorial Book is distributed on Yom Kippur afternoon before the Yizkor (Memorial) Service and is a beautiful keepsake.

Please add your loved ones names in the desired order

Prayer books

We use the Reform High Holy Day prayerbook, Mishkan HaNefesh. We are grateful to everyone who dedicated a set for use at CMI.

Additional assistance

If you need transportation we can help! Submit a receipt to the office for your cab or uber fare for reimbursement. As always, we will have designated parking spaces for those who need it and if you require special seating, please call the office 203-288-3877 to request a reserved spot.

HHD Childcare

If you wish to take advantage of on-site childcare (provided for ages 3 months through Pre-K) during the High Holy Day services, Please register your children in advance using this Registration Form. It is important that we know exactly how many children will need childcare so we can prepare in advance and staff appropriately. The fee, regardless is $15/child each service.

We will provide a snack (e.g., graham crackers, goldfish, and apple juice). If your child needs a special snack, please bring it with you and give it to the child care providers.

Annual Food Drive

As is our annual custom, we will be conducting a food drive these High Holy Days.  By donating food, we hope to help those whose fast will not end at sundown. Bags will be handed out at Rosh Hashanah for you to fill and return on Yom Kippur.  Please also consider donating to our Hunger Fund online at cmihamden.org or by sending in a check to CMI.
